For the 1964 World Sportscar Championship Shelby prepared five roadsters for the Division III class that competed against the Ferrari 250 GTO, Jaguar E-Type. These supported the new Cobra Daytona Coupe throughout many legs of the season.
To satisfy FIA requirements, Shelby had to modify the Championship cars. They were fitted with wider flares, twin oil-cooler scoops, a more canted front window and characteristic dents in the trunk lid to clear the FIA suitcase.
